iOS capture tutorial

Your first map on iPhone.

Start a system broadcast, pan your world, then return to Worldstitch to crop, review, and stitch.

From capture to a finished map

  1. Choose your world

On Home, tap Start capture. In the iOS capture guide, choose Worldstitch demo world for a built-in first try, or select the game you will record. The demo does not require another app.

  2. Start the system broadcast

Tap Open broadcast picker. In the iOS sheet, select Worldstitch and tap Start Broadcast. Leave the microphone off: Worldstitch uses the screen image, not audio. Wait for the broadcast to start.

Closing the picker without starting does not record anything. You stay on the guide and can open the picker again.

  3. Open the map and sweep

The demo opens automatically once the broadcast is running. For another game, leave Worldstitch and open that game yourself. Pan slowly in overlapping rows, keeping zoom and orientation unchanged.

iOS has no floating capture bubble or live mapped-area guide. You check coverage after capture. Avoid opening menus or other apps during your sweep.

  4. Stop with the red indicator

Tap the red recording indicator at the top of the screen and confirm Stop. If you recorded another game, return to Worldstitch. In the demo, the app opens the keyframe review when the broadcast stops.

  5. Review and choose the map rectangle

Remove keyframes that contain menus or accidental views, and rotate sideways frames if needed. Tap Map rectangle and draw around the map to exclude fixed controls. This crop applies across the capture before stitching.

Unlike Android, iOS chooses the map rectangle here, after recording. Keep useful overlap when removing keyframes.

  6. Stitch, unlock, and share

Tap Stitch keyframes to build the map on your iPhone. A free map starts partially locked. Where available, Unlock this map offers a rewarded ad, or Unlock every map offers a one-time purchase. Save or Share exports the version you can currently see.

Continue capture opens the broadcast picker again and adds to the same map. For the demo, your previous pan position and zoom are restored.

If something looks different

I opened the picker. Why hasn’t the demo started?

Opening the picker is not the same as starting a broadcast. Select Worldstitch, tap Start Broadcast, and wait for it to start. If you dismissed the sheet, open it again.

Where are the capture bubble and area selector?

Those controls work differently on iOS. Stop with the red recording indicator, then use Map rectangle in the keyframe review. Coverage feedback is available after capture, not as a live overlay.

System prompts can vary with your OS version. Rewarded ads and purchases depend on availability in your build and store. Neither is required to record and stitch a map.
