Android capture tutorial

Your first map on Android.

Choose your map area, record with the floating bubble, then review and stitch on your phone.

From capture to a finished map

  1. Start in Worldstitch

On Home, tap Start capture. For a first try, use Worldstitch demo world when the game chooser appears. It is built in, so you do not need to install another game.

  2. Allow the capture controls

When prompted, open Android settings and allow Worldstitch to display over other apps. Return to the guided setup, approve screen capture, and allow notifications when requested.

The overlay setup is one-time. Android asks for fresh screen-capture consent each session. If you use single-app sharing for the demo, select Worldstitch.

  3. Choose a world and the map area

Choose Worldstitch demo world at the top of Supported games, or an installed game. The demo opens inside Worldstitch; another game opens in its own app. Tap Start on the floating bubble, then draw a rectangle around the map, leaving menus and controls outside it.

Full screen is also available. In that mode, the bubble disappears after Start; use the Worldstitch notification to stop recording.

  4. Sweep slowly, with overlap

Pan across one row, move down a little, then sweep back the other way. Keep plenty of the previous view visible between moves. Keep the same zoom and orientation throughout the sweep, and use the mapped-area guide to see where you have been.

Keep the bubble outside your selected rectangle. Frames are skipped while Worldstitch controls overlap the map area.

  5. Save the recording and review

Tap Save on the bubble, or Stop in the Worldstitch notification. Worldstitch opens the captured keyframes. Remove menus or accidental views and rotate sideways frames if needed.

Save becomes available after a keyframe is captured. The bubble’s close control discards the run; use Save to keep it.

  6. Stitch, unlock, and share

Tap Stitch keyframes to build the map on your phone. A free map starts partially locked. Where available, Unlock this map offers a rewarded ad, or Unlock every map offers a one-time purchase. Save or Share exports the version you can currently see.

Need more coverage? Continue capture adds another sweep to the same map. For the demo, your previous pan position and zoom are restored.

If something looks different

Why can’t I see the bubble?

Check that Worldstitch can display over other apps in Android settings. If you chose Full screen and started recording, the bubble is intentionally hidden. Stop from the Worldstitch notification.

Why isn’t the captured area growing?

Move the bubble out of the map rectangle, pan slowly, and leave more overlap with the previous view. A stationary screen does not need another keyframe. Keep your zoom and orientation unchanged.

System prompts can vary with your OS version. Rewarded ads and purchases depend on availability in your build and store. Neither is required to record and stitch a map.
